Firstly let me apologise for not posting in a little while. I’ve been pretty busy working as of late but I’ll make sure I put into the site more regularly than I have recently.
The second apology is the title. I’ve taken the Digg’s Apple-section tactic of “I can post any bullshit rumour if I put a question mark after it”. I should state now that I doubt Virgin really do support piracy, but there we go.
Now on IRC earlier I was talking with Rich (of nostrich.net) about him just getting Virgin/NTL cable access and how this opened the world of newsgroups up to him. To fish the server address out for him, I did a quick Google and found Virgin’s newsgroup information page.
This bit caught my eye:
The rest of the name should give you a good idea of what the topic of the newsgroup is, for instance rec.humor or talk.environment. If it’s got “binaries” in the title, e.g. alt.binaries.movies or alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd, it is likely that files like movies clips or music files can be found there.
If you’ve ever used usenet to download something, you’ll probably know that those two areas are filled exclusively with tons of copyright protected content.
Nice of Virgin to give people a poke in the right direction!
