Oli, I think you might enjoy - if you've not already read it - Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynn Truss. She spells color wrong too, but I forgive both of you. ;)

I have no problem with "color" even though I would spell "colour". What I can't accept is something like this "The dog is chasing it's tail" (The proofreading feature in Microsoft Word argues that what I just wrote there is correct) or "Your a likeable person".

Nice article!
i'm not a native speaker, but it's not to difficult to write correctly.
(oh yeah, there is something i never understood, its about the "ly", like in beautiful/beautifully, correct/correctly..)

GP,

You're right; writing correctly is not difficult. Unfortunately, writing correctly seems to be one of those things in life that take just a little bit of effort and is therefore avoided by far too many people.

"Ly" is usually the ending used in the adverbial form of a word, as opposed to the adjectival form. "Beautiful" and "correct" are adjectives; "beautifully" and "correctly" are adverbs. She is a beautiful woman (Adjective beautiful modifies the noun woman). She paints beautifully (Adverb beautifully modifies the verb paints). That is the correct answer (Adjective correct modifies the noun answer. He answered the problem correctly (Adverb correctly modifies the verb answered).
