It is a bit unnerving that when you get it, it has a dire warning to not specifically
trust the md5 chksum that came to you with it, but rather go to their website
and verify the chksum there.....when their site has been down since day 1

LOL

While this received some hatemail on Digg I see no problem with the review - I think there are some valid points raised.

Keep them coming Sir.

This is just sad.

So if I change a theme, and install a bunch of apps can I call it my own distro also?

UbuntuStudio is nothing more than a collection of software that anyone can install themselves.

BTW, I wonder if the people that hacked this "Studio" together even tested the apps? PiTiVi is not usefull for anything just yet. Even the devs have stated this. I've read a few posts from this (these?) person (the Studio guy) at the Ubuntu Forums. He gets very heated when a discussion doesn't go his way. Like the time he was asking for suggestions, since he didn't get the suggestions he wanted, he had the thread locked. Quite funny to be honest.

What a joke.

That's what I was getting at, yes. The project remit is to cover 3 areas of creative production but it really only covers audio.

Work did go into the audio section. There is a different, faster kernel that you need for live recording and apparently (according to the lovely people in the digg thread) there are a lot of hardware gubbins that are usually a bitch to setup on your own.

That said, there's no balance and I don't think this release should have gone out the door as it is. They should have bundled in some extra apps to make it a viable graphic and video studio suite.

hi,

i am on studio now since 3 days and i must say, it is one of the best distros that i have try. sure, some people say it is not enough with the apps and so on, but i have no trouble with hardware, no probs with the software, all works fine. the look is the best that i have seen in the linux world, and for the first "try" from the studio people i think they have made a very good work !

Looks cool, and by cool I mean totally sweet!
Can't find a link to download it though... What gives?

I also wonder why they released it at this point? A bit too early in my opinion, but it seems to be pretty nice looking and includes a nice set of applications, but that's not enough. There should be a live version on available on that dvd!

I can see everyone's point here, and yes, it does look pretty cool. That said, the creators of studio aren't making any money of this. They're not shoving it down other peoples throats either. So why complain about the early release or that lack of programs? Isn't it possible that it was release at this stage to get feed back and improve on the next one?

People, I agree – but we need to be appreciate what the Studio guys have brought up. There may be issues with the apps, might lack live-CD options , still this is a good piece of "evolution" with regard to the multimedia part of Linux. "Rather than bounce over the wall, we need to promote, assist this move. Coz "Open Source MATTERS!"

Cheers to All, keep the good things going!..
